Be prepared to travel abroad
What can expect a person, travelling by car, beyond the borders of the Czech Republic
Each state has its own road traffic regulations, which may slightly differ. The knowledge of road traffic regulations in the state, which you are going to visit, can help you to save a lot of money on traffic fines. Here are a few examples.
Austria.
The government of Austria toughened penalties for using a mobile phone while driving a car from June 2016. Now it is forbidden not only talking over the phone without handsfree, but also any manipulation of the mobile in general, including charging the phone while driving. In accordance with the new regulations, it is forbidden to record address into the phone, if it is not used as a Navigator. Breakers face fine of 50-72 euros. But if the police recover that the driver was on the phone during the accident, the breaker faces a fine of 2180 euros. The same penalty is faced by those drivers who made accident without showing a turn signal when maneuvering.
In Austria the rules are also different regarding the use of car seats for children. In the Czech Republic, for example, the car seat is obligatory for children up to 150 cm and weighing up to 36 kilos. In Austria it is also compulsory the use of car seats for children up to 14 years.
Other rules and the use of reflective vests. They should be located directly in the car. In any case not in the trunk. And the number of vests should match the number of passengers.
Croatia.
Similar rules are applied in Croatia. Here you must have reflective vests in the car, too. It’s obligatory to have a fire extinguisher in the car.
In Croatia young drivers should be especially attentive. For drivers under 24 years the authorized speed is 10 km/h less than for older drivers. The same rules are applied in the city. If the authorized speed is 50 km/h, drivers under 24 years of age must drive a car at a speed not exceeding 40 km/h.
Italy.
Special attention should be paid by those who smoke at the wheel. In Italy smoking is not allowed in a car by transporting children under 12 years or pregnant women. Those who violate this rule could get fine up to 500 euros.
One should also pay attention if he takes the bike with. The fine will be paid by those who didn’t attach red and white striped square with a size of 50 by 50 cm after placing the bike behind the car.
And finally, Italy insists all cars to be equipped with internationally recognizedl sign (sticker), depending on the place of vehicle registration (e.g. SK, CZ, E).
